CBD 101

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound found in the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. Unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive and does not produce a “high.” While often associated with the marijuana plant, CBD used in wellness products is derived from federally compliant hemp containing less than 0.3% THC. CBD has gained popularity for its potential to support a sense of balance, relaxation, and overall well-being. Today, it can be found in a variety of formats such as oils, capsules, topicals, and edibles designed for general wellness support.

CBD Extracts

CBD Isolate
This extract contains only cannabidiol (CBD), with all other compounds from the hemp plant removed, resulting in a highly purified form of CBD without any THC.

Broad-Spectrum CBD
Broad-spectrum extracts retain a range of naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes, and other plant compounds, similar to full-spectrum  but with all THC removed. This offers a comprehensive plant profile while avoiding trace amounts of THC, making it a preferred option for those who want the benefits of hemp without any detectable THC.

Full-Spectrum CBD
Also known as whole-plant CBD, this extract includes the complete array of naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other beneficial compounds, including trace amounts of THC (no more than 0.3%), as allowed under federal law. Many users choose full-spectrum CBD for its holistic composition, often referred to as the “entourage effect.”*

At Urth Remedies, we exclusively use full-spectrum CBD to maintain the integrity of the plant in its most complete and natural form.

Is it safe and legal?

CBD derived from hemp is federally legal in the United States under the 2018 Farm Bill, provided it contains no more than 0.3% THC by dry weight. However, laws and regulations may vary by state, and consumers are encouraged to stay informed about local requirements. While CBD’s legal history has been complex, the current regulatory framework supports its use in wellness products when sourced and marketed responsibly. It’s important to note that not all hemp products are created equal, ingredient quality, sourcing practices, and third-party testing can vary widely between brands. As public interest and research into hemp-derived CBD continue to grow, more consumers are turning to these products as part of their broader wellness routines.
